Matthias Warnung, Basis Zweigelt NV

Matthias Warnung grew up in a traditional, small family-owned winery. However, after spending time in vineyards around the world, his passion for producing natural wines grew. Sticking to his mantra of producing wines as if they were only for himself (good on him), he makes his unique wines from just 10h of vineyard space. Made from 100% organically farmed Zweigelt, Basis is a blend of both the 2019 and 2020 vintages. Hand-harvested and left on skins for just two weeks, it's a deliciously light-bodied red packed with notes of fresh strawberry, cherry, cranberry and an underlying earthy note which makes the wine a touch savoury. Great on its own when chilled, or when paired with roast chicken.
